Goblin 2.0 Front Winch Bumper
2003–2009 Lexus GX470
The Goblin 2.0 is a fully integrated, single-piece structural front bumper engineered specifically for the Lexus GX470 platform.
Designed from 3D laser scans and validated through load simulation, it delivers maximum approach clearance, winch-rated strength, and precise bolt-on fitment — without cutting metal or compromising chassis integrity.
Remove the factory assembly. Install the Goblin 2.0. Torque hardware. Done.
No Cutting Metal. No Reuse of Factory Bumper Parts.
- No cutting painted factory bumper skin
- No cutting metal fenders
- No drilling into the frame
- No reuse of factory plastic bumper components
Because of the Goblin 2.0’s aggressive approach angle and expanded wheel-well clearance, the factory plastic inner fender liners must be trimmed to match the improved geometry.
- Limited to plastic liners only
- Easily cut with a box knife
- No metal cutting involved
- Fully reversible (replacement liners remain available from Lexus)
This is a structural upgrade — not a destructive modification.
Net Vehicle Weight — What Actually Matters
We do not list static bumper weight alone. We list what your GX actually gains.
The Goblin 2.0 bumper weighs 86 lbs.
Installation removes 36 lbs of OEM components that do not go back on.
-
Stage 1: Net weight added to vehicle: +50 lbs
-
Stage 2: Net weight added to vehicle: +56 lbs
-
Stage 3: Net weight added to vehicle: +60 lbs
A typical 10,000 lb winch with synthetic line adds approximately 70 lbs.
A Stage 1 bumper with winch adds roughly +120 lbs total to the front of your GX.
This is comparable to a small passenger or light cargo load on the front axle and represents less than 3% of total vehicle weight on a typical GX build.
Weight is positioned tight to the frame rails and rearward within the bumper envelope to minimize forward leverage and reduce pendulum effect on steering and suspension.
This is real-world net weight accounting — not marketing math.
Suspension Recommendations by Setup
Stage 1–3 (No Winch Installed)
Stock suspension: No issues.
The net increase is similar to adding a second battery under the hood. Ride height change is minimal on a healthy factory suspension.
Stage 1–3 With Winch Installed (~+70 lbs Additional)
Adding a winch increases total front weight to approximately +120 lbs.
We recommend:
- A mild lift spring such as Old Man Emu medium rate, or
- A quality 2.5" coilover system such as Radflo running a 650 lb front spring, or equivalent
The Goblin 2.0 does not require heavy-duty front springs unless your build includes additional permanent front weight (dual batteries, full skid systems, etc.).
Front Axle Load & Handling Notes
Adding weight to the front of any vehicle changes load distribution. What matters is not just how much weight is added — but where it is placed.
A fully built Stage 1 with winch (~120 lbs added) represents less than 3% of the total vehicle weight of a typical GX470 build.
The Goblin 2.0 positions mass:
- Tight to the frame rails
- Rearward within the bumper envelope
- As low as practical without sacrificing approach angle
This reduces:
- Steering lightness at highway speeds
- Excess brake dive
- Increased pitch over rough terrain
- Pendulum effect from forward-hanging weight
On-road behavior remains stable and predictable when suspension is matched appropriately to total build weight.
Off-road, the slight increase in front bias can improve traction during climbs by keeping the front tires planted under load.
As with any IFS vehicle, correct spring rate selection matters more than raw weight numbers. The Goblin 2.0 is engineered to work within realistic front axle load increases — not overload the chassis.
Engineered Strength Without Excess Weight
Strength does not come from using thicker steel everywhere. It comes from using the correct material thickness in the correct location.
Each Goblin 2.0 bumper uses seven different steel thicknesses, strategically applied based on stress modeling and real-world load paths.
- Heavier material in high-load winch and recovery zones
- Moderate thickness where structural rigidity is required
- Lighter material in non-primary load areas to eliminate unnecessary weight
This is how the Goblin 2.0 achieves:
- Full winch-rated strength
- Integrated recovery capability
- Net added vehicle weight starting at only +50 lbs
Material is not chosen for fabrication convenience. It is chosen based on where stress actually occurs.
Real-World Design for IFS Rigs
With IFS (independent front suspension) vehicles, you don’t take obstacles head-on. You angle in, let the suspension flex, then turn into the climb.
The Goblin 2.0 was engineered with extreme approach angles right in front of the tires — far beyond what most will ever need.
Tire Fitment
- GX470 running 285s: massive exposed clearance already built in.
- Designed to handle true 35s with ease.
- Fully flexed 35” tire at bump stop still clears cleanly thanks to the Goblin 2.0’s expanded wheel-well design.
Key Features & Upgrades
- Aggressive new approach angles — front and sides redesigned for serious clearance.
- Increased wheel-well space — clears most 35s right out of the box.
-
One-piece bumper and winch mount shell — stronger, simpler, and faster to install.
- Universal fog light mounts — fit nearly any light; independent brackets allow custom aiming (LEDs included in Stage 2 and 3).
- Integrated light bar pocket — fits an optional 25” single-row LED bar (Stage 3 option). Bolt-in cover available if no bar is used.
- Recessed recovery pull points — clean, safe face with no protrusions.
- Integrated winch mount system — accepts most planetary-style winches, tucked almost entirely behind the grille with solenoid remote-mounted under the hood.
Finish Options – Raw or Powder Coating
All bumpers ship raw, ready for paint. Powder coating is available as an option; please note it adds approximately 2 weeks to your order.
For the best results, we strongly recommend ordering your bumper raw and having it coated locally:
- Your local coater can select the finish best suited to your specific climate and conditions.
- Most local coaters offer a warranty, which we cannot provide for powder coating if ordered as an option from us.
We can ship directly to your local powder coater to save you time and speed up your bumper being ready for your GX.
Metal-tech 4x4 does not offer any warranty on powder coating.

Proven on Toyota Platforms Since 2000
Metal-tech 4x4 has been designing and manufacturing Toyota off-road armor since 2000.
We have been building Lexus-specific 4x4 armor since 2003 — when the GX470 was still new.
Metal-tech 4x4 builds products the way we do because we wheel what we build — and we build what we wheel.
Our designs are shaped by real trail use, not trend cycles. Revisions come from recovery loads, suspension articulation, and obstacle contact experienced in the field — not just CAD simulations.
Many early GX470 armor systems built by Metal-tech 4x4 are still on the trail today.
The Goblin 2.0 is not a new experiment. It is the latest evolution of over two decades of Toyota and Lexus platform experience.
