Description

Metal-tech 4x4 FJ40 Pre-Built Jackson Roll Cage

1963–1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

Note: This item is built to order and typically carries a 6–8 week lead time.

Pre-Built Jackson Roll Cage Overview

The Pre-Built Jackson Roll Cage delivers the same proven design as our Jackson Cage Kit, but arrives fully welded and professionally assembled by our expert fabrication team. This option is ideal for customers who want a true custom-fit roll cage without the time, tools, or labor required to weld one from scratch.

Each cage is hand-built in-house to ensure proper fitment to the FJ40 body. The Jackson configuration is an excellent choice for vehicles running late-model side-folding rear seats (usualy 1974.5 on. see below regarding early long rear seats), providing added passenger protection with OEM-style rear side hoops.

All Metal-tech roll cages are designed to fit the factory hard top as well as most aftermarket soft tops.

Premium DOM Steel Construction

Our roll cages are constructed from 2" x .120-wall DOM SRA tubing, custom produced to Metal-tech 4x4 specifications.

Standard DOM tubing typically offers 10–12% elasticity. Our proprietary tubing delivers 20–24% elasticity, allowing the cage to absorb and dissipate impact energy more effectively in the event of a rollover.

All cage designs are properly engineered in compliance with SCORE racing standards.

Early-Style Jump Seat Fitment – Video Overview

We frequently receive questions regarding inboarding early-style rear jump seats when installing a roll cage.

This short video was filmed on the fly for a customer who had that exact question. At the time, we had a 1972 Toyota FJ40 in the shop receiving a Full Profile Roll Cage with modifications for early jump seat fitment. Rather than wait, we recorded this walk-through to visually explain seat placement, tube routing, and key fitment considerations.

While the video features a Full Profile Cage, the same principles apply when planning seat placement and inboarding considerations for the Jackson Roll Cage.

Installation & Fitment Notes

Model Year Considerations:

  • Pre-1975 FJ40: Drilling is required for both front and rear mounting plates
  • 1975 and newer FJ40: Drilling is required for the front mounting plates only; rear mounting plates utilize factory OEM roll cage mounting holes

This roll cage is supplied in raw steel and will require paint or powder coating to protect the finish and prevent corrosion.

Configuration Recommendations

One of the most popular configurations includes grab handles, the dash crossbar, and the front center overhead bars.

Front frame ties are always recommended to properly transfer loads to the frame. Rear frame ties are strongly advised if the tub shows signs of fatigue or rust.

Rear overhead bars can be added but should be selected with rear passenger headroom in mind.

For more aggressive off-road use, hip guards and a rear seat belt crossbar may be added now or at a later date.

Seat Belt Note:
If running retractable shoulder belts, we offer universal mounting plates to provide both the lower retractor mount and upper shoulder pivot point.
