The Super Stock Spring (Included in Stage 3)
The Lexus GX470 is consistently heavier than the same-generation 4th Gen Toyota 4Runner — generally weighing 300–500 lbs more due to:
- Increased sound deadening
- Additional luxury features
- Heavier interior components
Early on, the first springs we used in our GX conversions were built to match the Toyota Prado 120 rear spring rate.
They worked. But the Prado-based spring was engineered around a lighter platform. While it bolted in correctly, it was right at the edge of ideal performance for the heavier GX470.
We wanted better.
So we spent over two years testing custom-built rear springs in search of what we call the “Goldilocks zone”:

- Not too stiff
- Not lifted
- Not saggy
Just right for a stock-height GX470.

Patented Key Cones – Dual Rate Secondary Springs
Toyota calls them “secondary springs.” Many conversion kits ignore them. We don’t.
Key Cones were developed by Metal Tech 4x4 in collaboration with the #1 polyurethane suspension manufacturer in the United States over a three-year engineering process.

CNC Machined UHMW Spring Tail Isolators
This is where most conversions fall short.
Polyurethane isolators can be too soft and allow the spring pigtail to crack over time. Aluminum provides no vibration isolation and can introduce corrosion between dissimilar metals, accelerating wear on the spring.
We machine ours from UHMW — the same material used in orthopedic implants.
